Computer Security

The CHIPDRIVE MyKey is an easy-to-use smart card USB stick from SCM Microsystems, Inc., of Santa Ana, California. The compact device combines a portable, encrypted, and PIN-protected password manager with a Microsoft Windows access lock to prevent identity thieves from accessing the PC or laptop. Its password manager stores passwords on the smart card chip, where they are encrypted and PIN-protected, and thus not vulnerable to malware infecting the computer. The computer lock feature allows users to protect sensitive information when away from their computers. When the device is unplugged from the computer, the computer is locked and no one can access it, even with the password. In addition, users can store other data, including personal information, Internet addresses, and personal notes on the device for use on any computer.
